What I Eat ~ Summer

I started this blog with the intention of giving you loads of food ideas to help you steer clear of foods with GMO’s without you having to go crazy – leave that to me, I’m so good at it! Well, I’ve noticed that I have not really helped you in that department; sure I’ve given you a couple of recipes but surely I’ve eaten more than those 5 recipes!

I’ve decided to post my daily menus for a week, maybe I’ll do one per season.  This could be great or could go horribly wrong, but then again, couldn’t that be said for anything we do in life?  I’ll take my chances, I apologize now if this bores you to tears!

Wednesday 7/6

Cereal – 365 Brand Apple-Cinnamon Morning O’s mixed with 365 Brand Honey-Nut Morning O’s with Stoneyfield Farms whole milk and fresh, organic blueberries
Yogurt – Stoneyfield Strawberry-pomagranite yogurt with WF’s classic granola (from bulk) and fresh, organic blueberries
Banana
Sandwich – Trader Joe’s wheat burger bun with TJ’s organic mayonnaise, tomato, Applegate ham, 365 Brand Munster sliced cheese, fresh-picked  garden lettuce, TJ’s organic dill pickles slices
Salad – Olivia’s organic baby spinach, carrot, cucumber, with Anne’s red wine & olive oil dressing and freshly grated Parmesan cheese
TJ’s Ricotta & Spinach tortellini with pesto sauce (This is a perfect example of a TJ’s brand meal that I question if the ingredients are really GMO-free!)
TJ’s Mixed nuts (50% less sodium; almonds, pistachios, macadamia nuts and cashews)

Friday 7/8

UGH! What a day!!  It was days like today that used to put me over the edge and made me wish I could walk into any store and buy food.
I had to be in court (for work) at 9am and it’s never known when I’ll be out, but it’s always at least an hour.  It was rainy and hot so I decided not to bring anything from home for lunch; I wasn’t sure if I would go back home after court or to WF’s but I would deal with it after court.  Well, I didn’t get out until noon (way later than I anticipated!) and I had an appointment at noon!  To get from court to the appointment to WF’s to work wasn’t really something that was going to be easy, basically they are all on opposite ends of the city.  It wasn’t until 2:00 that I landed back in the office; of course by then there was so much work piled on my desk that I wasn’t able to start with lunch.  These are the days that I realize how accustomed to this diet I have become.  Excuses aren’t made anymore; I need to eat, this is what I can eat, and this is where I can shop – PERIOD.

Saturday 7/9

Cereal – 365 Brand Apple-Cinnamon Morning O’s mixed with 365 Brand Honey-Nut Morning O’s with Stoneyfield Farms whole milk and fresh, organic blueberries
1/2 Protein Shake – TJ’s vanilla protein powder (yes, my sister and I constantly fight over whether this is GMO-free or not!), TJ’s organic raspberry yogurt, banana, TJ’s frozen berries, Bob’s Red Mill golden flax (ground in my Magic Bullet), water (only because I ran out of coconut water!)
Grilled cheese sandwich – 365 Brand Munster sliced cheese, TJ’s organic butter, WF whole wheat sliced bread
The other 1/2 of  my Protein Shake and fresh cherries
Cliff  Mojo Mountain Mix bar and Sweat Leaf Iced Tea
Burger – WF’s whole wheat bread, TJ’s organic mayo, tomato, fresh garden lettuce, TJ’s organic dill pickle slices, 365 Brand Munster sliced cheese
Fresh cherries and TJ’s Mixed nuts (50% less sodium; almonds, pistachios, macadamia nuts and cashews)
Cookies and cream Luna bar
Love crunch with Organic Valley 2% milk

Sunday 7/10

Sweat Leaf half and half – DELICIOUS treat!!
Pasta and sauce with salad – Ate dinner over my parents’ house, it was all “organic” (see previous posts about my mother)

Monday 7/11

Is this over yet!? I went from immediately writing down what I ate to now trying to recall it all over the next day’s morning coffee!

Yogurt – Stoneyfield Black Cherry with fresh blueberries and WF’s classic granola
Sandwich – WF’s tongol tuna with TJ’s organic mayonnaise on a Trader Joe’s wheat burger bun with TJ’s organic dill pickles slices
Salad – Olivia’s organic baby spinach, carrot, cucumber, with Anne’s red wine & olive oil dressing and freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Chicken kabobs – WF’s organic chicken breast (#3 rated) marinated in Organicville sesame teriyaki with red, yellow and orange bell peppers, button mushrooms and onions (broiled under gas broiler)
