Mom & Dad, Meet My Meat

My parents are in town!  I spoke with my Mom on Saturday afternoon to button up our plans for the evening, as she mentioned dinner, I wasn’t sure what to say.  They’ve been traveling up from Florida since I started my new venture and I hadn’t been able to talk to her about it yet.  I swallowed hard and said “Uh, I’m not really eating like I used to…”  I gave her a brief rundown of the major reasons and told her I didn’t want to stress her and Dad out but that I wasn’t going to be able to eat out with them that night.  She gave me a “everything in moderation” and I could tell she felt the same way she did when the teenaged me told her I was a vegetarian.  (Mind you, she would feed me spaghetti sauce with hamburg in it and say things like, “the cow is already dead”)

I called my sister and we made a trip to Trader Joe’s to stock up.  When we got to Mom and Dad’s yielding the cooler that has become a permanent attachment to my left arm, Dad said “What’cha got there?”  “Real food” my sister and I said.  We sat and ate our eggplant parm and told them all about what we’ve collectively learned over the past 2 weeks.  Some things surprised them, some didn’t.  The best part? I’m not really sure what their opinion is!  You see, if my mother thought this was hogwash, I’d know it!  The fact that she looked at the ingredients of the panko and asked what I thought was HUGE!  Even better… we all sat around the campfire and ate organic s’mores, with both my parents asking again and again for s’more!!
